Having read over 100,000 applications as the Director of Admissions at Stanford, the expertise he brings to BE Education is invaluable.

Bob’s career in the field of admissions began during his own undergraduate career at the University of Pittsburgh and now spans twenty years working within the admissions process of US higher education. He has helped thousands of students throughout his career find and select the best fit institutions. He has also played a key role in shaping the US admissions landscape, introducing international initiatives, outreach programs, and multicultural programming to many institutions, bringing his dedication and passion for education to everything he pursues.

Bob has also served as an elected delegate on the National Association of College Admission Counselling, and has been interviewed, featured, and quoted in popular media such as the Wall Street Journal, the Chronicle of Higher Education, Bloomberg Radio, USA Today, San Francisco Chronicle and Family Circle Magazine.

Anthony Nemecek

A Fulbright Scholar and former Director of the UK-US Fulbright Commission EAS, Anthony’s extensive admissions experience comes from 25 years in the field as a teacher, lecturer, independent counsellor, and admissions director.

As Director of the Fulbright Commission in London, Anthony was responsible for the US Educational Advisory Service, representing over 4,000 higher education institutions and promoting education in the USA, as well as the highly sought-after Fulbright scholarships. He is regularly invited to speak and conduct seminars on higher education and admissions processes all over the world.

Beyond his own vast teaching and lecturing experience, Anthony works closely with several UK secondary schools, providing seminars and events for staff, students, and parents. He has worked as an advisor for many of the top independent schools in the UK and is the US university school counsellor for the Lycée Français Charles du Gaulle in London and the Cadet School in Moscow.

Anthony has also co-authored both Uni in the USA and Uni in the USA and Beyond published by The Good Schools Guide, Lucas Publications Ltd, and writes frequently for the British national press.

Kristen Cammarata
Director of Higher Education

A former Director of Education USA and Director of International Support and Programming at Northeastern University, Kristen brings over 20 years of professional experience in advising high school and college students from around the world. Kristen firmly believes that there are many possible “fits” for each student and focuses on exploring each individual’s unique skills, interests and potential to identify all the academic possibilities.

Previously, Kristen worked for the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education to lead educational advising throughout the Middle East, North Africa and Southern Europe, and managed a professional development program for a global network of over 400 educational advisors worldwide.  She designed an innovative college counselling model that is now used in several countries.

Kristen has lived and taught English in Japan and Morocco, was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship by the U.S. Department of State, and has experience as a camp counsellor, university tutor, and teaching assistant.

As the former Associate Director of the Office of Higher Education at the Council of International Schools (CIS), Tom has worked closely with international admission directors from more than 450 top universities in the United States, Canada, and Europe to provide them with guidance on international student outreach.

Tom’s career in the field of university admissions has spanned nearly 30 years, and his experience demonstrates a lifelong commitment to international education, inspiring and guiding students to pursue their educational aspirations and gain admission to the university of their choice. He has held key roles in university admissions, and has led the international admission programs at Lynn University and Marymount California University.

Tom has also managed numerous international education conferences, and directed dozens of university groups and tours across the world. He believes that the university admission process, like the university experience itself, should be one of discovery and growth, and he brings that passion and enthusiasm to his profession.

Julia Gooding

As a former admissions officer, English teacher, and college counsellor for various schools across New York City, Julia brings over 10 years of experience in international education. After completing her Master’s degree in International Education Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education, Julia consulted with high schools across the US, helping schools improve their international student enrolment and success.

Julia’s commitment to furthering international education opportunities for students stems from her personal experiences and global travel to over 35 countries. After earning high honours in Asian Studies and Spanish at Colgate University, she received a Fulbright grant to study Contemporary Buddhism at Renmin University in Beijing.

Julia has also acted as a United Nations representative leading a non-profit cultural education and exchange organization as well as managed multiple international academic conferences and education programs throughout China.

Alexandra Fatula

Alexandra graduated with a BA in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she worked in the admissions office. Before joining, Alexandra worked as a writing consultant in the private sector in Washington, D.C. where she spent over ten years providing strategic writing support to clients.

Alexandra provided technical writing support to clients for department reviews, motivational behaviour analysis and training facilitation, staff retention plans, style guidelines, health care guidelines, and Reports to Congress. She brings this extensive knowledge of editing styles and proofreading techniques, providing valuable editorial support to students navigating the written aspects of US higher education admissions process.

Lara Butera

A graduate of the University of Vermont, with a BA in Psychology and an MA in International Studies with a concentration in education, Lara has over seven years’ experience in international education and higher education advising. She has worked with students from all over the world, including the US, South Korea, and China.

Over the years, Lara has attended and contributed to various international educational conferences. Most recently, presenting her original research on study abroad trends in China with the Harvard Summer Institute for College Admissions at the XVI World Conference for Comparative Education. She continues to be passionate about international students and the opportunities provided by a US university education.

Liz McClanahan

Liz graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University, earning her BA in International Affairs and Anthropology and MS in Communications. While at Northeastern, Liz studied abroad in Ireland and Argentina, experiences that fuelled her passion for cultural exchange.

Liz comes from a higher education background, beginning her career advising university students on study abroad opportunities around the world. As Assistant Director of International Student Support and Programming at Northeastern University’s Office of Global Services, Liz travelled abroad to spearhead international student recruitment initiatives and lead orientation programming. She has worked with over 10,000 international students in their transition to the United States.
